This hands-on course takes you through the 3D printing process from design through to printed object. You'll leave with a full understanding of 3D printers and their capabilities; knowing how to operate a printer and troubleshoot operations and have the opportunity to design, print and take away a printed 3D object. The ideal introduction to this rapidly growing multi industry sector.

Week 2: How and what you can print

3D design using Tinkercad
At the end of this session you will have an expert appreciation of the type of printers and their limitations. You will be able to determine what printer is best suited for your needs and also advise friends and colleagues.
Week 3: 3D design
3D design utilising Tinkercad
Where to find files
Checking and repairing files
This session will equip you with the skills to start making your own 3D designs and manipulating and preparing them for printing.
Week 4: Printing
Safe operation of machines
Hands on use of 3D printers
Post production finishing
At the end of this session you will be able to proficiently operate a 3D printer and know how to maximise the capabilities of your 3D printed objects so that they are truly stunning. It will teach how your invention could be prototyped and then readied for small scale production. Whether you just want to make unique one off items or are considering making large volumes of items this session will equip you for that step.

About the facilitators:
The Australian 3D Manufacturing Association (A3DMA) is the not-for-profit body that develops, promotes, builds networks and informs Australians about 3D Manufacturing.
Edwin Auzins studied Biomedical Mechanical Engineering at Sydney University and also completed a postgraduate degree in Dentistry. He coordinates the development and delivery of training for the Australian 3D Manufacturing Association (A3DMA). For the past three years he has overseen the team that assesses 3d printers, for suitability, for inclusion into A3DMA's school program. Ed is an industry recognised expert in the use and selection of 3d printers.
