If you're interested in landscaping or want to know more about the best plants for a Canberra climate, then this course is sure to inspire your green thumb. Suitable for the home gardener the course also offers a taste of what it is like to be a professional horticulturist.

This short course includes information on:
* plants and their life cycles, growth habits and requirements, as well as the importance of using Latin names
* soil preparation using bio-friendly techniques
* seasonal pruning and other maintenance requirements
* basic garden planning and design

Students will also be provided with information on continuing their studies at CIT Bruce, such as Certificate III programs in: landscaping; nursery, parks and gardens; sports turf management; conservation and land management, arboriculture, and floristry.

Materials

This class will be running on both Monday evenings 5.30pm - 8.00pm and Saturday mornings from 10am - 12.30pm.

Monday evenings classes will be held on 27 November, 4, 11 & 18 December. Please note that the class on the 18th December will be held at Jerrabomberra Wetlands.

Saturday Morning classes will be held on 2 & 16 December. These two classes will be held at the Jerrabombera Wetlands site.

About your tutor:
Keith Colls is a qualified horticulturalist and has been a keen gardener his whole life. He has a strong interest in fruit and vegetable growing and teaching urban dwellers how to grow their own food in backyards and community gardens. Keith is a founding member of the group which established the Canberra City Farm, a centre in Turner which demonstrates urban agriculture techniques and sustainable living. He is also a member of the Canberra Organic Growers Society and has been involved in establishing and managing community food gardens in Canberra and Queanbeyan since the late 1990s as well as holding many positions on the management committee, including six years as President. Keith has been conducting gardening courses for CIT Solutions since 2001.
